It is fairly common to use well water when filling up a backyard pool. Follow our step-by-step DIY guide below to do this task.
How To Fill Up A Pool With Well Water
Prior to filling up your pool with well water, you’ll want to run some testing to determine whether or not your filter can adequately clean the water. Well water, for example, is much rawer than a local municipality center’s water.
Additionally, there are more metals and ions featured in well water, which makes it more difficult for pumps and filters to clean the water. After you’ve done this testing, you can start filling up the pool.
There are a few options if your water is not suitable. You can use a filter system to filter the water or hire a water company to deliver some clean water for your pool.
You’ll need the following materials for this DIY task:
- Garden hose.
- Biocide.
- Five-gallon bucket.
Now follow these steps to do this project properly!
Step 1. Test The Well Water
- Fill your bucket with well water and biocide.
- Biocide can be purchased from a local store but make sure to follow the directions on the package.
- Wait about 5-10 minutes.
- If the water ends up turning brown or green, there could be a high level of metal ions in the water.
- A sand filter may be needed to remove the ions.
Step 2. Connect The Hose To Your Well Water Pump
- Now, connect the hose to the tap that’s closest to the well pump.
- Alternatively, you can also connect it to a faucet in your house.
Step 3. Put The Hose Inside The Pool
- Place the open end of the hose inside your pool.
- Then turn the water on and ensure the hose remains in the pool.
Step 4. Fill The Pool With Water
- Now, wait for your pool to fill up with water.
- This process could take differing amounts of time based on well water flow and pool size.
- For example, a 15,000-gallon pool with a 10 GPM flow rate will take about 10 hours to fill up.
